Implant care

Why thorough oral hygiene is crucial!

Implants should give you more pleasure and quality of life in the long term. To ensure that the investment in your smile pays off in the long term, conscientious implant prophylaxis is essential! Implants cannot be affected by caries like your real teeth. However, without efficient oral hygiene, dangerous bacteria can colonize and attack the tissue around the implant. If the gums become inflamed (gingivitis), the infection can make its way into the jawbone or the implant site (peri-implantitis). In the worst case, a lack of care can result in implant loss!

The following oral hygiene instructions will help you to keep the area around your implant-retained dentures clean and bacteria-free:

1.

Brush your teeth and dentures thoroughly several times a day with toothpaste. Interdental brushes and dental floss are also good for removing plaque and deposits in the spaces between teeth, under bridges and around implant abutments. The use of mouthwashes as a supplement is also recommended.

2.

Visit your dentist regularly for implant prophylaxis and teeth cleaning (every 3 to 6 months). Your dentist will remove plaque and bacteria from the areas that you cannot reach during home implant care.

With thorough care and regular prophylaxis, your dental implant can last a lifetime and serve you as faithfully as a real tooth. If you have any uncertainties or questions about implant care, talk to your dentist or contact us.
